Check out Twenty-Nine Fresh Cards from Magic's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Expansion (Including a Commander Deck!)
Everyone's favorite pizza-loving heroes are coming to the popular trading card game. The popular TCG's company, Wizards of the Coast, revealed a highly anticipated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles expansion at a exclusive panel hosted at NYCC. Could this be a exciting new set or simply another crossover cash grab? Let you be the judge.
Take a look below at everything announced from the Magic x Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set, including some useful background. Everything listed here releases on March 6, 2026, with one exception — a special Pizza Bundle drops a few weeks later on March 27.
MTG x TMNT: Core Set Cards
Before we get into the many special decks and collections available, we’ll examine at all the cards from the core Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles expansion that were revealed by the developers. Play boosters for the set are priced at $6.99 each, while premium boosters should run $37.99 per booster.
Let's unpack a few shell-shocking details. First, there's a new mechanic named Sneak Attack, inspired by the already established Ninjutsu, in which gamers can cheat big creatures onto the game field whenever an attacker goes unblocked. The key change here is that Sneak can affect non-creature spells as well. Wizards also used this chance to refine the mechanic a bit (Sneak is treated as casting, as opposed to the older mechanic). Ninjutsu is staying, but chances are players will encounter the new mechanic in upcoming expansions moving forward.
“If we ever go back to the Kamigawa plane, we might use the original ability because that plane is it was developed and it’s a hallmark of that world,” an experienced game designer stated. “However in other settings, because the rules are cleaner and Sneak is what's going to be Standard-legal, it’s probable we’ll use Sneak.”
That second variant of the leader Turtle, Sewer Samurai, is one of four cards with special art created specifically for the expansion by TMNT original artist the co-creator.
Additionally, if you're shocked by the card text on Turtles Forever card, which allows playing game cards outside of your deck, so was I. Yet as per the developers, that's now a official card in every format of Magic.
Anyway, below are the highly unusual land cards with full art from the TMNT set:
As per Wizards of the Coast's current policy, these cards are fully legal in Magic’s Standard play. The designers state they took care to ensure the new cards and mechanics worked smoothly with other Standard sets like Edge of Eternities.
“I headed the development for over a year and we knew it was going to be Standard-legal and which sets would be near it in standard,” the designer commented. “Our goal was to ensure that they work well with certain expansions like Edge of Eternities.”
For example, each of TMNT and Edge of Eternities include a blue-red archetype built around artifacts.
“They mesh together to provide the pieces for a fun Standard-legal deck,” the designer says.
Preconstructed Commander: Turtle Power!
Following a decision to create any pre-constructed Commander decks for the Spider-Man set and the forthcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender expansions, the company is changing direction with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This time it’s just a single precon, but it includes six distinct legendary creatures that can serve as your commander based on how you pair them (five cards have a special Partner mechanic called “Character Select” that allows starting with two of them in the command area rather than just one). Check them out below:
This Commander precon is priced at $69.99, though the price may rise due to demand. Sources indicated that it includes 43 new cards altogether, which translates to an additional thirty-seven Turtle-themed cards in addition to the six legendary commanders shown above. (Calculating roughly, that also means about 20 reprints if we estimate the deck includes 37 land cards.)
What will the TMNT version of the iconic Sol Ring look like? Fans must wait and see.
TMNT Bundle (Regular)
As per usual, the company is offering a collection. This one is priced at $69.99 and includes the following:
- 9 Standard Boosters
- 15 Foil land cards
- 15 Non-foil land cards
- Two helper cards
- 1 Foil promotional card
- 1 Oversized spindown life counter
- One storage box
Pizza Bundle
This is a special idea for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set, primarily because it comes in a box resembling a pizza box. Every pizza-themed bundle is priced at $99.99 and comes with the following:
- Nine Standard Boosters
- One Collector Booster
- Twenty-five Regular pizza lands
- 5 Foil pizza-themed lands
- Two Foil pizza bundle promotional cards
- 2 Reference cards
- 1 Oversized spindown life counter
- One Card-storage box
For those curious about the “pizza bundle promo” is, it’s essentially a reprint of an older card with brand-new TMNT art. Wizards showed an example for the well-known Magic card Dark Ritual depicting master Splinter sprinkling toppings on a pizza. In total, there are six different pizza promos available.
This special bundle releases a couple of weeks later than the core set on March 27, 2026.
Draft Night
This special bundle is made for a four-player draft and is priced at $119.99. That will get you:
- 12 Standard Boosters (ideal for a group of four to play draft)
- One Premium Booster (also known as, the reward for winning)
- Ninety Regular land cards (to build your draft deck)
- 10 Non-foil token cards
- One Draft insert (a one-sheet instruction sheet to drafting the set)
Turtle Team-Up
Lastly, Wizards are doing something new with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as in line with its continued initiative to create Magic products specifically for new players. Here, the cooperative set is a special set of prebuilt decks that allow two players team up to face a “Boss” enemy deck that pilots itself.
The general idea here that every Boss card grants special abilities to the creatures included in the boss deck. Each Boss automatically plays an additional card per turn, and players begin fighting {one Boss|
